Citation Formatting Examples
Biblical references are included in the text, in parentheses, using abbreviations of the biblical books, chapter, and verses in Arabic numerals, e.g.: Mk 1:1-3. For articles written in other languages, use the abbreviations and format customary in that language.
Patristic and medieval references may also appear in the text, in parentheses, using standard abbreviations as in Lampe, xi–xlv (e.g., Hom. Gen. for Homiliae in Genesim). The first citation must include, in a footnote, the edition used and any abbreviation that will be used subsequently.
For articles focused on a single author and containing frequent citations from that author, references may be made using acronyms or sigla in parentheses, with a corresponding note at the first citation containing full bibliographic details.
All other bibliographic references must appear in footnotes. There is no bibliography at the end of the article. Use the models below for reference formatting.
