Abstract

This paper examines the challenge of translating culturally specific anthroponyms and toponyms, and the decisions that translators must make in such cases. The paper analyses the methods used in the translation of these terms into German and Romanian, and the procedures employed by translators. Both the anthroponyms and the toponyms in the popular American comic series being studied have a culturally specific reference in the source texts, and thus contribute to the creation of local colour.
